Angela Moore Fleming, age 60, died May 15, 2023 in Lynchburg, VA. Angie was born in
Raleigh, NC on March 17, 1963 to parents Janice Joyner Fleming and the late William Harrison Fleming.
Angie spent her early childhood years in North Carolina, with her family moving to Roanoke, VA when she was in elementary school. She graduated from Patrick Henry High School where she was on the tennis and soccer teams. Angie then attended Wake Forest University, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1985. She pursued graduate studies and obtained a master’s degree in Critical Theory from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
Angie’s adventurous spirit took her to Guatemala and Nicaragua following her graduate studies to work for social justice causes helping the oppressed. This remained a lifelong passion of hers. Angie then worked for a number of years in health care at Duke University and in patient education at the UNC Hospital system in Chapel Hill.
Angie moved to Lynchburg in 2005 to be closer to family. She worked for many years at Givens Book Store which gave her the opportunity to meet many in the Lynchburg community. She loved helping with programs which could bring people together. More recently she worked for Centra Hospice as the volunteer coordinator for Lynchburg. She greatly enjoyed her work with the many thoughtful and kind volunteers as well as the dedicated and talented staff.
Angie’s great love of learning took her in many directions. She explored the arts by way of painting, pottery, knitting, and mosaics. In her younger years she was quite active in martial arts. Angie had a great love of music. She was an accomplished pianist and her enjoyment of music spanned many genres from classical, blues, jazz, blue grass to classic rock. She was also a most passionate fan of her beloved UNC Tar Heels basketball team.
Angie is survived by her mother, Janice Fleming, her sister and brother-in-law Lynn and Mike Will, her niece Kelly Knight (husband Martin, children William and Margaret) of Lynchburg, and her niece Sarah Parrish (husband Robert, children Caroline and Emma) of Mclean, VA. Also left to cherish her memory are numerous cousins, aunts, and an uncle.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lynchburg Humane Society or Centra Hospice.
