Barbara Lee Ward

October 8, 1946 - April 16, 2023

Barbara Lee Ward, 76, of Lynchburg, VA, formerly of Covington, VA, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2023. Barbara, more commonly known as “Bobbie,” was a beloved member of the Lynchburg community, an active member of Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church and a devoted friend to all who knew her.  Friends, family, and neighbors will miss her avid love for baking and crocheting, the bounty of which has become a staple of our lives, especially around the holidays. Most of all, her dearest friends will miss her presence whether it be at lunch bunch or a Sunday dinner, which she loved to host.

Barbara was born in Covington, VA, a daughter of the late Jesse James Ward and Mary Chappell Ward. She is preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Mary Holley. Barbara is survived by her brother-in-law Ken Holley and her two nephews, Stan Webb, his wife Ashley, and their daughter, MaryJane of Washington, DC, Steve Webb, his wife Taryn, and their daughter, Magnolia of College Park, MD. Barbara is also survived by many loving cousins and countless friends. All of whom will miss her dearly.

A memorial service will be held at Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 11am. Celebrate Barbara's life with a short message, photo or video!

Barbara Ward was a faithful supporter of the Jubilee Family Center. She gave to every Jubilee mailing and supported every event. Because of her support we were able to have after school tutoring, summer camp and send students to college. She made a difference in the lives of the children in our community and we are blessed by her gifts. I will miss seeing her smiling face, very very kind lady. She had a beautiful kind heart. Praying for her family. She left a legacy.

I had many late night conversations with Barbara when she worked third shift at Centra. If I was on-call, she'd call me about a problem and we'd usually end up chatting quite a while since I was wide awake at that point! After she retired, I was lucky enough to be invited to some lunches at her home, she was a wonderful cook! I will remember her as a fun, outspoken and genuine individual. To her family, you have my sincerest sympathies. She will be missed.
