Ben Scott Hall

December 11, 1947 - August 13, 2023

Ben Scott Hall, 75, of Lynchburg, Va, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 13, 2023. Ben was born at Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg, Va on December 11, 1947 to the late Ben Hall and Rose McWane.

Growing up, Ben attended Augusta Military Academy and E.C. Glass High School and could often be found around town playing football, fishing with friends, or causing a bit of teenage havoc. Some of you may even remember the time several catfish and carp mysteriously appeared in the pool at the Oakwood Country Club. After graduating highschool, Ben enlisted in the US Army, deploying to Vietnam shortly after the war began and then to South Korea. Upon his discharge Ben traveled across the country, working in Arizona and Florida before settling in Charlottesville, Va for many years where he discovered a love for both cooking and working with horses. He eventually returned to live in Lynchburg near the James River, which he always said was his true home, working there daily at the Snowden Hydroelectric plant and spending summers on its banks sharing his love of nature and fly fishing with his daughter. If you ever drove 501 between Eagle Eyrie and Big Island you probably even found yourself stuck behind his old two tone brown ford truck or in conversation with him while grabbing breakfast at the H&H in Big Island. Though he has left us, the impact Ben had on the lives of everyone he interacted with in the many different eras of his life will be felt for years to come. He will be missed deeply and remembered fondly.

Ben is survived by his daughter, Sara Hall (Travis); granddaughter, Medora Gregory; nieces, Carson Hall, Annie Hall, and Emma Hall; nephew, Eli Hall; and his many loving friends. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his 2 sisters and younger brother.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg is assisting the family.
