Betty DeLane Whitehead Thacker

Betty DeLane Whitehead Thacker of Lynchburg passed away Thursday, January 12, 2023, at her residence after a long illness.

She was born in Roseland, Va. on December 22, 1941. Betty was raised by her maternal grandparents William and Dolly Napier. She attended Nelson County High School.

Betty was a member of Madison Heights Baptist Church and the Gleaners Class. The family is also appreciative of Timberlake Baptist Church and Timberlake United Methodist Church for their many acts of kindness throughout Betty’s illness.

Betty is survived by her husband James L. Thacker “Jim”; sons: Bryan Gregory Thacker (Sue), Gary Scott Thacker (Donna), Steven Carter Thacker (Nettie) and Jason Edward Thacker (Radonna); 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; Half-brothers: James Whitehead Jr. (Jan) and David Whitehead; Half-sisters Kim Martin, Sandra Whitehead, Suzie Donald and Barbara Hinski.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 2023, with visitation one hour prior at Madison Heights Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Tyree officiating. Memorial Contributions can be made to Madison Heights Baptist Church in memory of Betty.

My deepest sympathy to the soccer family. Betty and I were friends for many years through the women of the Moose. She was always a joy to work with. May God give you peace in this time of difficulty.

To the Thacker Family I’m so sorry to hear of Betty’s passing. She was a very sweet lady smiling all the time. I got to know her through the Moose. She would always help out when needed.
