Billy Joe Huffman

Billy Joe “Bill” Huffman, 81, of Forest, Virginia passed away on January 3, 2023.  He was the son of the late Harry and Margie Huffman. He was the loving husband of Phyllis Huffman for 63 years.

Bill was born on September 9, 1941, in Beckley, West Virginia. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. After serving 4 years in the Air Force he settled in Lynchburg and was a machinist at the Lynchburg Foundry at the lower basin.

He was a member of North Bedford Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his children, David Huffman (Shirley), John Huffman (Melanie), and Sherry Jo Huffman (Vic); grandchildren, Joshua Huffman (Haley), Jessica Dowdy (Shaun), Tyler Huffman (Nicole), Brandon Huffman, Hunter Huffman, Cara Jo Little (John); 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Kay Mitchell; numerous nieces and nephews and many loving friends in the community.

In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Pat Mitchell Jr.

A graveside service will be held at North Bedford Baptist Church Cemetery on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at 2:00 PM with Pastor Chad Brady officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alan B. Pearson Cancer Center or North Bedford Baptist Church.

Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg is assisting the family.
