Charles Edward “Chuck” Werner

March 6, 1947 - February 28, 2023

Charles Edward “Chuck” Werner, 75, of Lynchburg, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. He was the devoted husband of 29 years to Janet Neighbors Werner.

Born in Seneca Falls, New York, he was the son of the late Karl Phillip Werner and the late Ellen Fisher Werner.

In addition to his wife, Janet, Chuck is survived by his son, Mark Werner and his wife, Selenia of Brandon, Miss.; daughter, Heather Younger and her husband, Lee of Lynchburg, Va; son, Matthew Werner, of Monroe, Va.; and grandsons, Cole Werner, Noah Younger, and Ayden Werner. He is also survived by two brothers, Elwin A. Werner, and Phillip K. Werner, of Fayette, N.Y., and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Chuck served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a gifted engineer for Framatome where he retired after 40 years. After his retirement, he served on his neighborhood community board.

Chuck was smart, funny, kindhearted: a good friend to many. He loved all the times he spent with family and friends, especially times in Hilton Head, S.C. and Duck, N.C. Chuck also had a very special love for his little dog, November.

Chuck’s family would like to say thank you to all the wonderful friends and neighbors who helped him and Janet during these past months. Very special thanks to Larry and Lillian Jones, Marty and Carol Kirsch, Charlie and Babs Wilson, Jack Whistler, Elizabeth Patzch, Bob and Deloris Davis, and Betty Daniel. We cannot thank Gentle Shepherd Hospice enough for their loving care.

A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 10, 2023, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory with the Rev. Steve Bird and Rev. David Drinkard officiating. Visitation will take place at 2 p.m. before the memorial service.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to a charity of your choice.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.

Chuck was a kind man that always had a smile on his face .I’ll always remember the last time I saw him sitting in his living room enjoying his snacks and asking how we were . Not even acting like he was sick such a kind soul fly high sweet Chuck until we meet again on Gods great shores

Chuck was our neighbor when we lived in Beechwood Hills in the 1980s. He was one of the most kind-hearted, joyous, and funny people I have ever known. I remember how many laughs he gave everybody about his broken leg from the skating rink -- which was really nothing to laugh about at all, but Chuck managed to do it. It was a pleasure knowing him!
