Dolly Annette Marcuson

January 8, 1951 - March 12, 2023

Dolly Annette Marcuson, 72, of Lynchburg, died Sunday, March 12, 2023.

Ms. Marcuson was born January 8, 1951, in Charlottesville, VA, a daughter of the late Edward Marcuson and Thelma Blanks Marcuson.

Annette was a Planner for the city of Lynchburg until her retirement in 2009.  Throughout her career, her passion was centered around historic preservation. Her efforts contributed a large part to the beauty of Lynchburg’s historic districts. Seeing beauty in everyone and everything, art flowed in her and through her. Annette cherished the time she spent sharing her love of art with her grandson, Owen. She loved devoting herself to the Lynchburg Art Club and 7 Hills Art Club, where she was a member. Above all, she adored her family and many, many friends.

Annette is survived by her children, Michael Chenault, and his wife, Amber, of Forest; Jacquelyn Hogan and her husband, Shawn of Forest; grandchildren, Owen Chenault, Nora Chenault, and Josie Chenault due in July, her sisters, Karen Marcuson and Jeanne Isley; her brothers, Michael Isley and Edward Marcuson, along with her granddog, Opie.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Isley.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 17, 2023, in Tharp Funeral Home Chapel, Lynchburg. Interment will follow at Buckingham Community Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lynchburg Art Club, 1011 Rivermont Ave, Lynchburg, VA 24504.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.

I will miss Annette's friendly enthusiasm. We were fellow art club members who enjoyed our participation as artists and enjoyed our views of an art work from time to time. I will miss her very much.

I will miss Annette greatly. Growing up, I was very inspired by how artistic she was and always enjoyed seeing her shows. I always seemed to run into her around town either walking the trails or at any random event. We had countless memories together and I will miss her so much.

I did not know Annette well, but met her through classes at the Lynchburg Art Club. Our first conversation was about sharing Owen as her son and my late husband’s name. In my brief experience with her I found that she was kind, welcoming and generous of spirit. My sincere condolences to her family and friends.
