Earl L. Smith “Troy,” age 56, formerly of Lynchburg, VA, departed his earthly life at his residence on June 2, 2022. He was born on August 29, 1965 to Geraldine and Earl Smith. Troy was employed at Flowers Bakery for over 30 years.

He joined Scott Zion Baptist Church at a young age. He attended E.C. Glass High School and was a graduate of the class of 1983. After high school, he went on to enroll in the U.S. Army where he dedicated three years of service.

Troy leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife of 35 years, Phyllis Smith; his parents, Geraldine Smith (Al) and Earl Smith (Lean) of Lynchburg, VA; two daughters, Natasha Saunders of Lynchburg, VA and Janay Smith (Anthony Hamilton) of Harrisonburg, VA; one loving grandson, Kaige Hamilton, who brought Troy so much pride and joy; one sister, Jackie Nelson of Richmond, VA; two brothers, Keith Smith of Lynchburg, VA and Garry Smith (Aretha) of Roanoke, VA. Troy also leaves behind a devoted brother, Danny Jones (Derricka) of Lynchburg, VA; a devoted cousin and close friend, Catherine Robinson (Chris) of Lynchburg, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Expression of gratitude: The entire Smith family thanks you for your kindness and sympathy during a very difficult time. Your prayers, love, and support is greatly appreciated. We are forever grateful.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Scott Zion Baptist Church. A visitation will be held on Monday, June 6, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, VA from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
