Elizabeth Canby Maurer Sites

August 11, 1946 - October 4, 2022

Elizabeth Canby Sites, 76, of Forest, Virginia went home to be with her Lord, Tuesday, October 4, 2022. Beth was born on August 11, 1946, in Hershey, PA. She was the loving and devoted wife of the late Albert W. Sites, Jr. Everyone who met her was aware of her love for the Lord, for her family, for her students and coworkers, for her church, and for anyone in need.

Beth treasured her four children: Albert L. Sites, Sr. and wife Kristen of Mechanicsburg, PA, Christina E. Brenning and husband Dustan of Forest, Seth T. Sites of Crestview, FL, and Benjamin J. Sites of Appleton, WI; her 13 grandchildren: AJ, Brandon and wife Desteny, Ashleigh, Cassia, Titus, Jael, Liberty, Mikaela, Eliana, Liam, Caleb, Briana, Erinn; and her great grandson Henry. Beth is also survived by her brother Robert F. Maurer and wife Joice of Waynesboro, PA, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws whom she loved dearly.

While her greatest joy was her family, Beth had much to be proud of in academia. She earned 4 degrees: BA in Community Work from Simmons College, MA and Ph.D. in Professional Counseling from Liberty University. At the age of 75, she earned an additional MA in Special Education: Applied Behavioral Analysis from Arizona State University. Beth delighted in teaching Psychology at Liberty University until her cancer diagnosis in May. She cherished her students: cheering them on in sports, working with them on research teams, and having them over for dinner.

Beth spent her life serving others. She was the happiest when she was helping, whether doing dishes, showing someone around Liberty’s campus, or writing letters to her loved ones. Beth faithfully attended games, concerts, and activities of her kids, grandkids, and students. Beth was a devoted fan of the Lady Flames basketball team, theater arts, football, and other LU student events. She was an active member of the Heritage Baptist Church choir. She loved to quilt, knit hats, scarves, and dishcloths, and give them away.

In addition to her husband, Beth is preceded in death by her parents Lewis J. Maurer and Elizabeth Balderston Maurer and brother, Lewis L. Maurer.

A memorial service will be held 11 am Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Heritage Baptist Church in Lynchburg, VA. Burial will be held 10 am Monday, November 7, 2022 at Indiantown Gap Cemetery in Pennsylvania. ¬¬¬In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Samaritan’s Purse or the Disabled American Veterans. ¬

Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg is assisting the family.

Beth was an amazing friend and counselor during a time in my life when I needed both. She leaves a tremendous caring legacy at LU. Greatly missed.

My dear dear cousin, who I idolized when we were young and grew better to know over our decades of adulthood. Faithful and loving always.

Beth Sites was a mom to me when I was in college. I will forever be grateful to the love she and her husband shared with me. Her infectious laugh and joy of the Lord always encouraged anyone around her.
