Ervin Carlyle Brown

Ervin Carlyle Brown, 94, of Forest passed away peacefully at his residence,Saturday, March 4, 2023.  He was born February 12, 1929, in Amherst County, a son of the late Eddie Ervin Brown and Alma Foster Brown. He was the husband of the late Patsy Phillips Brown.

Carlyle was a graduate of Madison Heights High School and Phillips Business College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired from the U.S. Postal Service as Postmaster at the Sweet Briar Post Office.

During retirement he enjoyed traveling with his wife, home improvement projects, fishing, the fellowship of his buddies at the Graves Mill McDonalds, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and grand dogs.

Carlyle is survived by: his children and their spouses, Jeff and Karen Brown, Jed and Cathie Brown, Todd and Jann Brown and Susan Brown Harvey and Brian Harvey; grandchildren, Matt,  David (Ashley), and Jason (Kaitlyn) Brown, Jennifer Brown Evans (Michael), and Diana Brown Weeks (Rodney); great grandchildren, Kamryn Weeks, Tanner Weeks, Lincoln Evans, Elliot Brown, Lisette Brown, Emily Evans and Ila Brown (expected in April); his sisters Geraldine Bowles (Gerald) and Ella Hughes (Ronnie); and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Earle Brown, and three sisters, Lois Schnuth, Shirley Franklin, and Edna Hunt.

The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 from 6 to 8 p.m., at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A celebration of life will be held Thursday, March 9, 2023 at 1:30 p.m., in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with Pastor Steven Propst officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a contribution, in honor of Carlyle’s wife, Patsy, to the Alan B. Pearson Cancer Center, 1920 Atherholt Road, Lynchburg, VA 24501, or the American Cancer Society, 2050 Langhorne Road, Suite 201, Lynchburg, VA 24501.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg is assisting the family.

Thinking of you all today. Many good memories of shared times in the Brown's home during Amherst high school days. He contributed to many people making the community better. Praying for you all.

I met Carlyle at McDonald's along with a group of other retired folks year ago. I enjoyed our morning coffee and conversation very much. My condolences to Carlyle's family and friends.

I work at Macdonald’s I saw Carlyle quiet often. I would come fish at his house and he would come down and sit and we would talk we just talked last Thursday about doing some crappie fishing next week. What a great person he was. I will miss him
