Glenn Rush Hawes
Glenn Rush Hawes, 94, of Lynchburg passed away comfortably Saturday, November 27, 2021, and was a member of Grace Memorial Episcopal Church.
Born in Riverside County, CA on December 31, 1926, and raised in San Bernardino, CA on the Hawes Ranch. He was the son of the late Rush O. Hawes and Lottie Hawes.
Glenn spent his youth in San Bernadino, CA where his mother home schooled him. He served in the U.S Airforce from 1946 to 1949 and was a graduate of Lynchburg College. After college he went to work for State Farm Insurance and later as General Sales Manager for a local appliance retailer. His love for the water leads to volunteering with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary at Smith Mountain Lake where many weekends were spent teaching boating safety and performing vessel safety inspections. He was an avid vintage car enthusiast with a project car in process in his shop just about all the time. He drove several British cars in vintage racing around the U.S. under his team called “Grey Hair Racing”.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Jerry Hawes; his children, Norman Hawes
Michael Hawes, Andrew Hawes, Aleta Robertson, David Hawes, Martin Hawes; stepchildren, Skibo Adams, Denise Torode, Ricky Brown; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg is assisting the family.
