James Lanham

March 11, 2023

James Keith Lanham, 63, of Brookneal, passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2023. He was born in Buckhannon, West Virginia on November 23, 1959.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa Lanham; his mother, Della Humphrey; his daughters, Melissa Thompson, Christina Clay; his son-in-laws, Marshall Thompson, Christopher Clay. Preceded in death by his sister, Diane Lanham-Manzanares; his father, Delbert Lanham.
He loved his family and fur children very much and was a loving husband and father. He fought a hard battle to stay here with us, but we pray he finds peace and comfort in the company of those who passed before him. May our cherished memories remain in our thoughts and his spirit and love live on in our hearts.
In lieu of services, we will be reserving lane #5 on an upcoming date at the Lynchburg Arms shooting range in his memory, since target shooting was his passion.
Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.

James became my brother when I was just ten years old because my father married his mother. When my sister and I came to live with the family, we arrived with just the clothes on our backs. James showed us brotherly love and generously shared what he had with us. I will never forget that love and generosity. He was a true brother in every way. We were a family for three and a half years, and just as we arrived, my dad abruptly took my sister and I away. I never knew how much that affected James until he found me many years later. Because, when we left, that brotherly love continued. I am so glad he found me and was able to put some closure to what happened to my sister and I. Rest in peace, Brother until we meet again.
