James Wilson Thompson

June 24, 1965 - February 1, 2022

James Wilson Thompson, 56, of Lynchburg entered the arms of Jesus at Lynchburg General Hospital on Monday, February 1, 2022.

He was born June 24, 1965, in Radford, Virginia, son of the late Charles Thompson and Judy James. He was a local plumber for the past 15 years at Roto Rooter in Lynchburg where he made several lifelong friends. He enjoyed carpentry by trade and would help many in the community with household repairs in his free time. He was an avid Virginia Tech fan and loved attending football and basketball games. He attended local stock car races and watched Nascar races. He had many hobbies including collecting movies, shot glasses, and knives, fishing traveling to beaches, eating out with family and cooking with new recipes. He cherished his loved ones and made sure they were always taken care of no matter the time of day. He worked very hard his entire life for everything he owned, and that was one of his proudest accomplishments. He attended Thomas Road Baptist Church and never missed out on the “Beast Feast” each year.

He is survived by his special friend, Julie Adams of Rustburg and her children, Carl Ingram of Gladys (Travis), Sydnee Waller of Lynchburg (Robert), Ronnie Millner of Rustburg; son, Christopher Thompson of Radford; step daughter, Jessica Tickle of Dublin; grandchildren, Sawyer Ingram, Lawson Ingram, Hayden Thompson, Jordyn Thompson, Aleha Tickle and Joseph Penn; sister, Rebecca Carter of Parrott; brother Charles Thompson of Dublin; special nieces Jessica Parris of Radford, Veronica Thompson of Roanoke and Anjellica Smith of Christiansburg; three great nieces, three great nephews and his Pitbull’s, Marley and Zoe.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, maternal grandparents, Joe and Mable Austin; paternal grandparents, Bud and Ruby Thompson, and his special mother-in-law to be, Juanita Holden Adams.

A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, February 6, 2022, at 3 p.m., Pastor Tom Bryant officiating. Viewing of James will be available prior to the service at Tharp Funeral Home.

Dear Sweet Julie and Family, I am so very sorry to hear the passing of James. Things in life never seem fair and I know you all are broken hearted to loss someone as special as James. I am sending love, hugs and prayers for you all. Some folks say when our loved ones leave us, their work is done. Well I do know our hearts become Treasure Chest full of Loving Memories. May all of you and the families loving memories of James sustain you as you go on without him. In times like this a precious song comes to my mind, "In times like this you need a Savior, be very sure your anchor holds and grips a solid rock". You all have had to much pain in your lives, I pray for peace, love and comfort from our Heavenly Father. God Bless. Love you guys, Susie
