John H. Lewis

John H. Lewis, son of Carl and Louise Lewis was born in Glasgow, Va. on December 8, 1931. John passed away April 3, 2022. He was married to Betty Bush Lewis for over 70 years.

He was retired for Burlington Industries as a truck driver. He was also a member of Randolph Memorial Church where he proudly served as an usher.

John was preceded in death by a son Danny Lee; grandson Timmy Lewis; brother Carl Jr.; and sisters Jane and Brenda.

Along with his wife, he is survived by five children: Jimmy (Susan), Steve (Rosie), Chris (Vicky), Karen (Ben), and Darlene (Robert); 13 grandchildren: John, Sasha, Mary Elizabeth, Kristie, Ashley, Heather, Ricky, Josh, Jamie, Jeff, Skyler, Sydney, and Ethan; 24 great-grandchildren, too many to name but very well loved, three of which are newborns.

A celebration of John’s life will be held on Friday, April 8, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Madison Heights with Pastor Derik Hamby officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your favorite charity in memory of John.

To the family, I am sorry for the grief that you are feeling. Knowing of God's love for you, continue to look to him when he " will wipe out all tears from our eyes, death, suffering, and pain will be no more "Revelation 21:3,4 He says death is an " enemy that will be brought to nothing " 1 Corinthians 15:26 How comforting to know that this will be a thing of the past and through Christ Jesus a resurrection for our loved ones. John Howard Lewis, beloved husband of 70 years to Betty Bush Lewis passed away on Sunday April 3, 2022. He was born on December 8, 1931 to the late Carl and Louise Lewis in Glasgow, VA. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by a son, Danny Lee Lewis, a grandson Timothy Lewis,a brother Carl Lewis Jr, and 2 sisters Janet Agnor and Brenda ? He is survived by his wife Betty, 5 children, Jimmy Lewis (Susan), Steve Lewis (Rosie), Karen Wilkinson (Ben), Darlene Campbell (Bob) and Chris Lewis ( Vicky) . The 13 surviving grandchildren are John, Mary Elizabeth, Sasha, Kristie Ashley, Jeff, Jamie, Ricky, Heather, Josh, Sydney, Skyler, and Ethan. In addition John had 24 great grandchildren including 3 newborns: Too numerous to name but greatly loved John worked tirelessly for his family for over 30 years as a truck driver for Burlington Industries and worked for the Lord as an usher at Randolph Memorial Church. His great love was tending to his yard where he planted many flowers and bushes for Betty. A celebration of John's life will be Friday April 8th at 11:00 at Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory in Madison Heights. Visitation will follow.
