Karen Athelia Snell Curtis

December 10, 1941 - August 14, 2021

Karen Athelia Snell Curtis, 79, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on the morning of August 14, 2021. She is preceded in death by husband, Alex Curtis; father, Frederick A. Snell, Jr.; mother, Irma (Greer) Snell; sisters, Dorothy Kenyon, Evelyn Frost, Kathleen Hewitt and Ora Southworth.

She was born in Oneida, New York on Wednesday, December 10, 1941.

Above all, Karen loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a devoted Christian, a strong woman of God, a prayer warrior, and sought to share His good news with everyone she came into contact with. She was an encourager of many, always willing to lend an open ear and pray for needs spoken and unspoken. After God, her family were the most important people to her. She was the epitome of unconditional love and would give of herself freely and with great joy.

Karen loved to read her Bible, listen to and read sermons, and listen to worship music. She actively supported several missionaries and ministries that were close to her heart. In the last year, Karen loved to watch the silly antics of the feral cat colony cared for by her daughter, Rebekah, her grandson, Jordan, and herself when she was able. In her free time, she also enjoyed watching the birds and deer as well as taking walks through nature.

Left to cherish her memory are daughters Sandra Parker of Waldorf, MD and Rebekah Johnson of Amherst, Va.; grandchildren, Arianna White (Jayquine Bryant, Fiancé); (Baby B, unborn Great Grandchild of Hampton, Va., Jacqueline Smith (Christopher Smith),  of Hampton, Va., Jordan White of Amherst, Va., David Nares (unborn Great Grandchild), of Albemarle, NC, Amber Pineda, Cara Bryant, and Nathan Parker; brother, Frederick J. Snell, of Munnsville, NY; sister, Ozella Snell, of  Munnsville, NY; several nieces, nephews, and all their children; and spiritual children.

Karen was a special friend since my days at Pinecrest. As I went into mission work, she joined me with her contributions and prayers. Karen has reaped fruit in Ghana!

Karen was a blessing to everyone who knew her. She was my housekeeping boss at Pinecrest and was always available for us to talk to. She treated all of us in housekeeping like one of her kids. She will be greatly missed. Our prayers go out to the family.

While at Pinecrest I hung out with Karen and even taught her how to play a game called Rummikub. She loved that game and even began to beat me at it. I know she is enjoying the Streets of Gold now and there is no sickness and suffering there. I am glad to have known her and pray her family is comforted at this time.
