Kenneth Maurice Penn, Sr.

June 18, 1950 - October 30, 2021

Time to Be Born: To his parents George and Adelia Penn, Sr. a beautiful baby boy was born on June 18, 1950 in Lynchburg, Va.

A Time to Be a Man: As a young boy he was raised in Madison Heights, Va. with eight siblings: George (Butch), Wayne (Skettle), Sammy, Carol Ann, Laverne, Patricia, and Consuelo. There he attended Madison Heights Elementary School, Central High School, and Community College. He was blessed with four children: Kenneth, Tasha, Marcus, and Latoya. He later married Debra Crews of Lynchburg, Va. and was blessed with 20 and 1/2 years of marriage.

A Time to Worship: As a young man Kenneth accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and joined Scott Zion Baptist Church. He was a member at local 8270 Union Steel Workers for over 35 years. Kenneth was a dedicated member and officer of Shop Stewart, local union president and financial secretary until his health failed him. Kenneth was always willing to help people. He was humorous, strong-willed, loved to travel and memories of his life will always be treasured.

A Time to Die: Kenneth departed this mortal life and stepped into eternal rest on October 30, 2021 at 9:27 p.m. at Lynchburg General Hospital, Lynchburg, Va. God needed more beautiful flowers in His garden so he called Kenneth home to rest. Kenneth was preceded in death by his son, Marcus Penn; his mother, Adelia Ferguson Penn; his father, George Dennis Penn, Sr.; his sister, Carol Ann Sorrells; and his brother George Dennis Penn, Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his best friend and loyal wife, Debra Crews; three children, Kenneth Maurice Penn, Jr. (Malinda) of Norfolk, Va., Tasha Baskfield (Eric) of Chester, Va., and Latoya Penn of Lynchburg; three sisters, Laverne Haskins (Ron) of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Patricia Watts, and Consuelo Tabb of Madison Heights, Va.; three brothers, Wayne Penn (Janice) of Rustburg, Va., Samuel Penn (Shelby) of Madison Heights, Va., and George Napier (Susie) of Lynchburg, Va.; five grandchildren, Briana, Sabina, Naomi, Mason, and Lia; three sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Mayberry, Linda Moore, and Patricia Brown of Lynchburg, Va.; two brothers-in-law, Stanley Crews (Shirley) of White Plains, Md., and Samuel Crews (JoAnn) of Fort Washington, Md.; four loving aunts, Maxine, Dorothy, Hattie, and Bootsie; one uncle, Elmer (Mary); a host of devoted and loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and a very devoted friend Reginald Shuford (Jennifer).

A celebration of life will be held 1:00 pm Thursday November 4, 2021, at Tharp Funeral Home Chapel Lynchburg.

Our hearts are heavy as we're grieving the earthly loss of our brother "Bo". I am honored to be a honorary member of the Penn family. I will not be able to attend Bo's homecoming celebration due to a prior appointment. I will be with you in spirit. I love each of you.

Sending condolences, prayers and hugs to Bo's family. I didn't see Bo that often, but we were glad to see each other when we did. That's the way our family operates. As cousins we were taught, if family need you, you are there at any time. To be absence from the body is to be present with the Lord. Cousin Delia Mae is slowing getting her family (Penn) singers back together. Rest in Peace my dear cousin until we meet again!!!
