Lavoris Annette Ware

October 1, 1962 - February 17, 2023

Lavoris Annette Ware “Cookie” departed this life on Friday, February 17, 2023 at her home in Lynchburg, Va. She was born on October 1, 1962, to the late Joe Louis Jackson, Sr. and Ruby Mae Cardwell- Jackson. Lavoris was proceeded in death by her sister Valenica Jackson-Walthall (Lewis). She also leaves to cherish her memory a loving stepmother Phyllis Jackson. Lavoris is survived by a devoted husband of 37 years, Dennis Ware; three sisters and two brothers, Diane Allen (Rodney), Everette Jackson (Lynetta), Stacy Jackson, Angela Jackson, all of Lynchburg, Virginia, and Joe Louis Jackson Jr. of Memphis, Tennessee; seven nieces and seven nephews, Cerria, Kiana, Alexis, Cameron, Chase, Darial, Dasia, Dangelo, Deshawn, Chrishawna, Juan, Marcel, Katina, and Christopher; a host of great-nieces and great-nephews including Aaron, Khaza, and Armani; several in-laws Cheryl (deceased), Vanessa, William, Cynthia, Anthony (deceased), and Karen; many special cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Lavoris “Cookie” served in the Billings and Collections Water Department for the City of Lynchburg for 35 years before retirement and continued work odd jobs to keep herself busy a few years after that. She was always family oriented, stern when necessary, but loved to tell a joke and make others laugh. She would lend a helping hand to anyone she was connected to that needed it and showed great concern for her family and friends. She enjoyed playing skilled games such as cards, backgammon, and checkers and spending time with her family. It’s hard to say goodbye to someone who had such a big impact on so many lives. It’s even harder to lose someone you know and love, to let go of her, and move on, but this is what she desired for us. If we keep the good memories in our hearts and minds, we can find comfort that “Cookie” will always be with us.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A homegoing service will be held on Friday, February 24, 2023 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Burial Park.

I was so heartbroken to hear about Cookie. The last time I spoke to her she was doing well and sounded like she was back to herself, that was a week before her birthday. Cookie had a heart of pure GOLD, she loved her family more than anything and when it came to her nieces and their children she would just smile every time she spoke of them. The bond they shared was amazing. Cookie was a good friend, I love her very much, and will miss her. My sincere condolences go out to her family.
