Loraine Ellen Sams Reaves
Loraine Ellen Sams Reaves was born in Montana on August 9, 1922. She boarded a train to Washington DC during World War II and took a job at the hot shoppes, where she met her husband, Edwin. They were married in 1945 and soon after bought their home in Coleman Falls that they would share for the rest of their lives.
Loraine was preceded in death by Edwin and is survived by a large loving family including her children: Carolyn Segree, Steve Reaves (Debbie), Donny Reaves, Linda Veik (Gerald), daughter in law Gloria Reaves; and her grandchildren: Jennifer Segree, Roy Reaves (Michelle), Meredith Swartz (Eric), Christel Reaves, Jimmy Reaves (Kristi), Josh Reaves (Bethany), Janna Veik, Anthony Veik, and Natalie Veik. She also has fifteen great grandchildren.
The family is forever grateful to Nancy Calloway, Michelle Reaves, and Lorna Eckard for their tireless love and compassion in Loraine’s later years.
Loraine was known as ‘Grandma’ or ‘Ole Granny’ to many and was loved by all who knew her. She embodied love, strength, and optimism and passed that on to her family and friends. She had a great passion for gardening and would often share bouquets and plants with her visitors. We will miss her and her cookies terribly.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 PM on Sunday, November 14, 2021, in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg. A graveside service will be held in Kedron Baptist Church Cemetery on Monday, November 15, 2021, at 1:00 PM with Rev. Bryon LePere officiating.
