Mackie O’Nell McCormick Clapp, 88, of Madison Heights, passed away December 26, 2021 at her home. Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years Benjamin Earl Clapp.  She was born in Spout Springs Virginia to the late Lewis and Queenie (Almond) McCormick, a surprise addition to 10 other siblings. She was preceded in death by all of her siblings save a devoted brother Curtis W. McCormick of Lynchburg.

Mackie was a devoted spouse and supported the lady’s court of Woodmen of the World throughout Earl’s tenure with them. She loved antiques and could always find room for one more decorative angel in her home. She is survived by her daughter, Denice D. Clapp, son, Clinton E. Clapp, MD (Lynn McRoy), grandchildren Adrienne Cruser, Meredith Lavigne (Jesse), Leslie Clapp, Devon Clapp, Nolan Clapp, Annalise Sheppard and Colin Sheppard.

The family wishes to thank Tanesha Rucker and her team whose steadfast care allowed Mackie to live the way she wanted to.

In lieu of flowers consider a donation Lynchburg Humane Society.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Madison Heights, is assisting the family.

So sorry to hear of Mackie’s passing. She was a wonderful lady who always encouraged me in every way. Heaven gained a sweet lady and I’m sure she and Earl are having a great reunion.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I was one of the caregivers for your mom. I worked for her for almost a year. I came to love her she was the sweetest. Some of the days that I went in to work for her I would sit at the table with her and eat and we would watch preaching service on my phone. She talked about God all the time. I’m going to miss Ms Clapp. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family

Clinton...so sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. . There are no words that will ease your heart. Just know that she is with your Daddy as I am sure he was waiting for her with his hand held out to grasp hers.

I was and will always be her doll baby. She's given me countless and vivid memories from childhood and as recently as last Thursday. She always loved me, without conditions, and now has simply moved into my heart. A forever visit for all of my life. Mackie and Earl Clapp taught me how to not only survive, but to thrive. I knew I was a loved and cherished granddaughter, and that assurance is irreplaceable.
