Marion Lavern Calloway

November 15, 1961 - January 12, 2022

Mrs. Marion Lavern Calloway, better known to many as “Missy”, departed her earthly life on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Willie Thomas Payne and Willie Beatrice Payne, born on November 15, 1961, in Newport News, Virginia. Marion’s sister Sharon Morehead also preceded her in death in 2008.

At an early age she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and attended Dominion Now Word Church where she was a dedicated member.  She was faithful and consistently showed an evangelistic love for lost souls. Her freedom to bless the congregation with what the Lord was decreeing through her was kindly received and manifested in the lives of many. Marion shared the love and word of God wherever she went.

She was united in holy matrimony to Ricky Lee Calloway on January 25, 1986. This union was blessed with four children after falling in love in Marion, Virginia to later raise their family in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her surviving spouse: Ricky Calloway; children: Marcus (La’Quena) Payne, Kevin (Shantel) Payne, Ricky Calloway, Corey (Karina) Calloway and her stepson Antonio (LaKesha Jenkins) Mangum; ten grandchildren:  Ke’Shanti, Ke’Mya, Kevin Jr., Ke’Zaria, Aniya and Marcus Payne, Nevaeh Carter, Harmáne, Rylan, and Audrina Calloway; siblings: Carolyn Harris, Stanley (Bridgitti) Payne, and Patrice (Herbert) Sabb; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Celebration of Marion’s life will be held at 1 p.m. at Family Life Church on Saturday, January 22, 2022. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg on Friday, January 21, 2022.

Remembering the things we did together as kids, puts a smile on our faces and happiness in our hearts. Remembering your family visiting ours in Richmond, VA. The laughs we shared and games we played. Going swimming and just hanging out. Our family visiting Newport News, the fun seemed to never end. Ann and Carolyn telling ghost stories. As we grow up, even if we don’t see each other often, these memories always keep us in touch. Ricky and family, Tricia, Stanley, Carolyn and the Harris Family, May the Lord comfort your grieving hearts and bring you peace. Praying you’ll be comforted with precious memories and God’s presence to care for you in your loss. As some people journey through life, they leave footprints wherever they go- footprints of kindness and love, courage and compassion, humor and inspiration, joy and faith. Even when they’re gone, we can still look back and clearly see the trail bright with hope that invites you to follow. Your Cousins The Harris Family

Marion made such a positive impact on everyone she came in contact with. I'll miss her presence as a coworker, her laughter, conversations as my friend/ and sister in Christ. Her faith and trust in God was immovable above all else. Praying for her family that Gods peace will comfort and strengthen them thru this difficult time. Now that you've earned your wings, Rest in Heaven Marion❤❤❤

To Marion's family----My heart is broken, not only was she a co-worker, she was a friend and more like a sister. We could talk about anything. Disagree or Agree we always remained friends at the end of the day. We talked pretty much everyday so that will be a void. She was a great mom, wife, grandmother, and friend. She had the biggest heart and the sweetest smile. Her laughter was contagious. Anyone who knew the real Marion had no problem telling her stuff and keeping it real. I know a lot of times she would tell me to be nice and I would have to remind her, are your Marion or Missy. I am gonna miss both of them. Rest my dear sister. God seen her growing weak and made the choice to bring her home to rest. She will be missed. Forever in my thoughts and heart. Marvetta Jones.
