May 18, 1945 - June 11, 2022

Norman Edwin “Ed” Smith, 77, of Lynchburg passed away Saturday, June 11, 2022. He was the loving husband of Ruth Overstreet Smith for over 55 years.

Ed was born on May 18, 1945, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a son of the late George C. Smith and Edith Queen Smith. Ed honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy and was retired from Griffin Pipe where he worked as a welder. He was a proud life-long member of the NRA and enjoyed photography.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Michael Smith (Jenni), two grandchildren Jed and Abby Smith all of Bedford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother George Smith.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2022, at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg.

The world lost a wonderful man. Ed always had a big smile for everyone. He was devoted to his wife Ruth and their Son Mike and his family.

Ruth and family we were so sorry to hear of Ed's passing. We always enjoyed our Mary Kay get togethers with our husbands. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you during such a difficult time.

A good man and friend. An excellent weldor*, photographer, teacher and a 2nd Amendment supporter. Will be missed by friends and family. *Traditional spelling for the person who is welding using a welder (machine).
