Oakey Daniel Bramlett

Oakey Daniel “Smokey” Bramlett, 79, of Thaxton, passed away on December 7, 2022, at Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born in Bedford, VA on October 5, 1943. A son of the late, Harrison Daniel Bramlett and Callie Mae Stevens Bramlett. In addition to his parents Smokey was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

Smokey was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He retired from Rubatex in Bedford and worked as a Dye Maker. After retiring from Rubatex Smokey went to work with Bedford County Public Schools. He loved his family and spending time with them, especially his grandkids. Often, he could be found working on his farm, going out to eat with family and friends or family vacations to the beach. Smokey was also a lifelong member of the Bedford Moose Lodge 1897 and a member of the Montvale Rescue Squad. He was loved by so many and will be missed so much by his family and friends.

Smokey is survived by his loving wife, Cordelia Bramlett; two sons, Timothy Bramlett and Roy Bramlett and his wife, Tina; four grandchildren, Kody Meadows, Cory Bramlett, Colby Bramlett and Kenly Bramlett; two great-grandkids, Kyler Meadows, and Kaia Meadows. Also surviving are numerous other family and so many friends.

A Funeral Service and celebration of Smokey’s life will be conducted at 2:00pm on Monday, December 12, 2022, at Tharp Funeral Chapel in Bedford. Burial will follow the service at Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00pm and 6:00 until 8:00pm on Sunday, December 11, 2022, also at Tharp Funeral Home Bedford. I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Bramlett's passing. He was always so kind to me at Liberty High School and never hesitated help the teachers and staff with "one more thing". Oakey's great smile will be missed.

Sending prayers to my sister Cordelia and the family. Remembering all the time Oakey and I spent time working with his cattle. He was also the first person to take me deer hunting. He was more than a brother-in-law was a great friend. You will be missed.
