Patricia Ann Anderson Shelton
Patricia Anderson Shelton was born October 20, 1940, in Campbell County, Virginia, to the late St. Clair Sr. and Lois Ward Anderson. She entered into eternal rest on January 3, 2023, at the Martinsville Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Martinsville, VA.
At an early age she professed her faith in Christ and joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she served faithfully. Patricia was educated in Campbell County public schools and graduated from Campbell County High School, as valedictorian in 1958.
Her accomplishments included enrolling in Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C., where she began a career in graphic arts, serving three years at the Creative Art Studio. Pat later ventured into the work force of The United States Government as an art illustrator for “The Provost Marshall General (Military Police), in Washington, D.C. and received several awards for excellence. After moving to California, she worked for the U.S. Naval Civil Engineering Laboratory, in Port Hueneme, California.
After her son was born, she embarked upon an educational adventure as a student of fine arts at Sacramento’s American River College. To her amazing artist talent, promises were discovered using “Pastels Colors” to illustrate her artwork as “vital, organic, pulsating and alive, with her human body work as powerful and uniquely expressive.
Upon returning home, Pat became active in her church activities. She joined the Senior Choir, Goodwill Club, The Ladies Aid Society, and served as Sunday School Secretary and teacher.
Patricia leaves to mourn her husband, John Shelton of Washington, D.C., one son, Jean Paul Shelton, of Baltimore Maryland, one sister, Rose Marie Anderson, of Petersburg, Va., and one brother, St. Clair Anderson, J. (Blondie) one sister-in-law Marie Shelton.
Two nieces, Anita Fay Anderson, Adrien Anderson Hobson and one nephew, Christopher Anderson, Sr., three devoted cousins, Jacqueline Lewis, Carlton Anderson of Baltimore, Maryland, and Bryant Anderson of Northern Va., six great- nephews, six great-nieces, one devoted friend, Joyce Price and a host of cousins, friends & loved ones.
A celebration of life will be held on 11:00 am Tuesday January 10, 2023, at Tharp Funeral Home Chapel Lynchburg. Interment will follow the service in the Mt Zion Baptist Church Cemetery Lynchburg, Va.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
