Patricia Evelyn Cravens Warren
Patricia Evelyn Cravens Warren, 90, of Lynchburg, VA, died peacefully on Monday, February 27, 2023, after a long decline with dementia.
“Patsy”, as she was known to everyone, was born in Enid, Oklahoma on October 30, 1932. She was the oldest child of Pat and Vinnie Cravens. In addition to her parents, Patsy was preceded in death by her husband Pete, to whom she was married for 62 years, and her three siblings, Peggy Lippitt, Paula Aylward, and Edward Cravens.
Patsy is survived by her two daughters, Ginny Garvic (Mike) and Nancy Sehn (Marvin),
She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Andy Garvic (Lisa), Joe Garvic (Jessica), Kristin Wright (Ryan), Tim Garvic (Jennifer), Leslie Zamora (Mark), Nick Sehn (Rhonda), and Caroline Petrow (James), 19 great-grandchildren, one brother-in-law, Jerry Warren, two sisters-in-law, Nancy Warren and Brenda Gilbert, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Patsy grew up in Enid, graduating from EHS in 1950. Having met Pete while he was stationed in the Air Force in Enid, they married in November of 1950. Patsy and Pete moved to North Carolina where he began his career in ministry and higher education.
When both of her daughters were in elementary school, Patsy then followed her passion for learning and enrolled in Atlantic Christian College. In 1963, they returned to Enid where Patsy then attended and graduated from Phillips University. The following year, Patsy received her Library Science endorsement from Oklahoma State University and became the librarian at Waller Junior High School in Enid. In 1969, Patsy and Pete moved to Lynchburg, VA, where she began her 25 years of service in the Lynchburg City Schools. Patsy served as librarian at Bass Elementary, Linkhorne Middle, and Heritage High School. During this career she also received her Masters of Education from Lynchburg College in 1975.
Patsy was very active in the Lynchburg community. Her numerous volunteer organizations included the League of Women Voters, Adult Care Center, YWCA Board, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, LC Women’s Club, and First Christian Church where she served as an Elder, Sunday School teacher, and Chancel Choir member. Her commitment to the care of others was an important part of her life. Her love of music and singing will always be remembered with a smile by those who heard her beautiful voice. Patsy loved traveling, cooking the bounty from Pete’s garden, and visiting family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her family would like to thank the caregivers of The Summit and Centra Hospice for their loving care and support.
A celebration of Patsy’s life and faith will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at First Christian Church, 3109 Rivermont Ave. Lynchburg, VA 24503.
