Patricia Hignett

October 15, 1942 - April 29, 2023

It is with great sorrow that our family announces the passing of Patricia Jo Ferry Hignett on April 29, 2023.  She passed away at Lynchburg General Hospital at the age of 80 surrounded by her loved ones after a long courageous battle with breast cancer.

Patricia was born in Washington DC on October 15th, 1942 and was the daughter the late Dr. Allen M. Ferry and Ethelyn Shaw.  She was the oldest of 4 siblings (Monte Ferry, Alexis Ann Ferry, and Timothy Ferry). Patricia grew up in Arlington Virginia and attended Hampden Dubose Academy in Florida.  She worked as an elementary school instructional assistant and later became a hairstylist.  She and her husband Jim moved to Ashville NC where she had her own in- home daycare. Years later they moved to Mountain Home, ID to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren and open a guitar shop.  Patricia lived the remainder of her life in the mountains of Lynchburg, Va. with her husband of 40 years.

Above all Patricia will be remembered as a wonderful and loving wife, mom, grandma, great grandma, and friend.  She loved spending time with her family during holidays and celebrations, camping with church friends, singing and playing hymns on the keyboard with her husband on guitar, taking long scenic rides along the Blue Ridge Parkway and doting on their dogs and grand-pets.

There is no doubt that Patricia’s faith was strong and she loved the Lord with all her heart.  She was a devoted Christian and always involved in church.  Patricia enjoyed singing the Lord’s praises, playing the piano, keyboard and tambourine.  She also served in the music ministry with her husband Jim. God’s loving light shone brightly in every aspect of how she lived out her life.  She continuously displayed this by her sweet and caring kind spirit, never hesitating to put others’ needs before hers.

Patricia, you are truly missed.  Everyone is deeply saddened that you are gone, but we are at peace knowing that you are rejoicing with your Father in Heaven.  We will always have your beautiful memories to fill our hearts and hold on to until we see you again.

Patricia is survived by her husband James Hignett, her blended family of 4 children (Anita, Wes, Cheryl, and Patty), many grandchildren and great grandchildren, her sister Alexis Ann Ferry, her sister-in law Marilyn Ferry, and her brother Tim Ferry.  She is preceded in death by her parents Dr. Allen M. Ferry and Ethelyn Shaw and her brother Monte Ferry.

A Celebration of Life will be held this fall.   The place, date, and time is TBD.  Contributions in memory of Patricia Jo Hignett can be made to  Samaritans’s Purse.org.

Jim I was so sorry to hear about Pat. I know the good Lord saw she was tired and said it is time to come home. She is now watching over you and will continue to for the rest of your days. I feel very blessed to have you both as friends and thanked the good Lord for that. Pat was such a kind soul with a spirit that shined. Jim you and Pat were very blessed to have each other. You and your family are in my prayers during this time of grief. I thank the Good Lord for our memories to keep us until we see our loved ones again. Please call if you need to .
