She was born on October 25, 1930 in Fayetteville, North Carolina.Daughter of the late Grady Lee Simmons and Fannie Williamson. She grew up in Stedman and Roseboro, North Carolina. There she successfully transplanted shoots of the beautiful Crape Myrtle trees from her childhood home that were standing at the time of the Civil War. Ruby enjoyed gardening and canning, sewing, baking and was an avid reader of history and the Bible. She greatly enjoyed writing and receiving correspondence from a multitude of friends. She was a Hospice volunteer.  From the year 2000 Ruby enjoyed membership in the Bedford Presbyterian Church. In 2010 Ruby moved to be closer to her son Jeffrey (Annette) and his family in Washington, PA. residing at Strabane Trails Village.

Condolences & Tributes

Celebrate Ruby's life with a short message, photo or video!

So sorry to hear recently of Ruby’s passing. We became acquainted with her when my late mother Ena Janosko lived at Strabane Trails in the mid-2000’s. Even after moving our mom to my sister’s home in FL, Ruby and I kept in touch with cards and phone calls. Such a truly gentle Southern lady whom I thoroughly enjoyed knowing and will always remember. May God Rest Her Soul! With sympathy~Carol Janosko Easton in UT

Ruby was a gentle and soft spoken Southern woman. She told interesting stories about her childhood in the South. She was a devoted wife and was very proud of her family. Ruby sewed beautiful dresses for her young daughter. Ruby would always respond to cards with a beautiful note in return. She had a sweet smile and laugh. Rest in peace, Ruby!
