Ruth Ann Stinnett Martin

October 26, 1965 - November 12, 2022

Ruth Ann Stinnett Martin, 57, of Lynchburg, VA, passed away unexpectedly on November 12, 2022, at her residence.

Foremost, Ruth can be remembered as a daughter, a mother, a grandmother, a sister and always a friend. Her house was where you could find everyone’s children. She was a caretaker at heart; she always needed to make sure everyone was okay.

Ruth was born October of 1965 to parents, Constance Gail and Wyatt Arthur Stinnett, Jr. She grew up to have 2 daughters of her own. She did always enjoy her jobs that were caring for sick people or caring for their home. She spent many years caring for her youngest daughter who they came to discover had a rare terminal cancer. She would later on care for her dear mother who also fought several battles of severe illness.

No matter the circumstance, you could always count on Ruth to be there. Even with all that transpired, she made time to be there for her grandchildren and their many athletic events. She did love nothing more than her ever growing craft projects. Or, getting them to help her with her cherished (very spoiled) mini teacup dachshunds, Daisy, Annabelle and Penny.

No matter what facet she is mentioned; Ruth touched many lives and collected many friends along the way. She will be forever missed by those who survived her; daughter, Melissa G. Oliver; grandsons, PFC Chancellor W. Dalton and Hayden R. Oliver and granddaughter, Constance I. Thompson; siblings, Charlene (Sam) Bostic, Wyatt Stinnett, III and Perry (Becky) Adkins, as well as several nieces and nephews that she cherished, Chasity, Meagan, Amanda, Natasha, Aaron, Christian and Cheyenne; her mother’s sisters who she also was close with, Sylvia, Linda and Barbara, and countless cousins. The Vassar Family as well who was a very big part of her life.

She will be received by those that predeceased her. In the forefront her beloved mother, “Gail” and beautiful daughter, Heather Marie and her furbaby Daisy who passed less than a week before her. May they all rest and rejoice in peace.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, is assisting the family. To send online condolences please visit tharpfuneralhome.com.

Condolences & Tributes

Celebrate Ruth 's life with a short message, photo or video!

My condolences on the transitioning of Ruth. She and I went to school together and we remained friends. We reconnected about 11 years ago when i was a manager at fashion bug. She recognized me before I her. She told me to call her so we could do lunch, but that did not happen. She was a very friendly person gone to soon. The world will not be the same without her smile and laughter. I am praying for the family.
