January 13, 1939 - August 2, 2023

Ruth Carter Flippin, 84 of Lynchburg went to be with her precious Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 2, 2023. She was born in Alton, Virginia on January 13, 1939 to James Harvey Carter and Minnie Hodges Carter. Ruth retired from Centra Health after 35 years of service.  She was known for her wonderful work ethic, whether she was on the job or helping her family and friends.  Her inner strength of character was known to all as well as her tenacious spirit. Ruth was a member of Freedom Word Church, which was one of the most important aspects of her life.  She served there in many capacities, giving her all in every area including being an usher/greeter, and assisting with special events and Communion.  Everything in Ruth’s life revolved around her love of God and her love of people. She leaves a legacy of love in those whose lives she touched, including her daughter, Tammy Flippin-Ortiz (Osvaldo), two sisters, Louise Powell (Horace) and Violet Satterfield; a brother, Jimmy Carter (Shirley) and best friends, Carol Ann Hammond and Doris Brown. She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Edward Flippin and two sisters, Janice Fears and Joyce (Elaine) Martin. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Freedom Word Church in Spout Spring, Virginia with Pastor Greg Mayhorn officiating.  The burial will be held privately by the family.

Carol, please accept my most heartfelt sympathies for the loss of your best friend.I’m so very grateful to have known Ruth. She was one of the sweetest people I knew. I can’t count the number of times Ruth gave me the blessing. She had a sweet spirit and smile that would light up any room. I know you miss her so very much, but at the same time, rejoicing she’s no longer in pain. God bless you for all the love and care you showed Ruth for so many years.

My best friend of 40 years.27 years we shared a home together.she was the most caring, compassionate amazing ,humble, loving,( there is not enough words to describe my best friend.,) mother, sister, friend,a person could ever have in their life.No one was a stranger to her.She shared Jesus and His love with everyone she met. It could be walking , the grocery store , church.,physical therapy.Just anywhere she went. She retired from centra centra health after 35 yrs. Of service, she was loved by everyone there. She was known as “the voice of centra”.She had the best telephone voice. She loved her church, where she did every thing and anything. When ever and wherever they needed her.She worked the nursery for many years. She would give the blessing to everyone, everyday, everywhere, the last thing she quoted on August 1st was the 23 rd psalm. When she took her last breath here on earth she took her first breath in heaven, all healed,,all whole , no more pain , no more suffering. . Just imagine walking those streets of gold and bowing down before Jesus. I know she was greeted by her son Robert, her sisters Janice (Carlton) Elaine (Jerry)and any other family member that went to heaven before her. I know when Jesus met you HE said welcome home my precious precious child. Well done my child. You’ve finished your course, you have kept the faith, enter into your rest. The Bible tells us “ To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”. We had many good years together ,we laughed, we cried. We prayed, We’ve been there for each other for everything. The one thing I did not learn from you ,was how to live without you in my life.. I’ll see you again one day , my best friend Ruthie.🥰 The house is too quiet without. “Because HE LIVES-we live “ Gal.2:20 I miss you bunches! With lots of love and hugs.Daddy tell my girl I love and miss her lots. Carol-Ann 🥰🤗💝💜☝️
