Stuart J. Turille

July 31, 1935 - April 27, 2023

Stuart James Turille, 87, of Lynchburg, VA, died Thursday, April 27, 2023.

Stuart was born July 31, 1935, in Minnesota, a son of the late Stephen James Turille and Caryl Erickson Turille.  He was a good son, a devoted husband, a loyal friend, and a dedicated Wahoo. He simply was a good man!

Stuart graduated from UVA with a degree in business and NY University with a Masters in Banking/Finance. He worked for United Virginia Bank as Executive Vice President and, after retiring, served on many boards and charities from the Free Clinic to Youth Philanthropy. He always considered his greatest accomplishment to be his three sons – Stuart, Jr., Terry, and Randy.

In addition to his wife of 48 years, Barbara Martin Turille and his sons, Stuart is also survived by his stepdaughter, Angela; two daughters-in-law, Lisa, and Sherry; and his grandchildren, Elleri, Alanna, and Cymbeline; and a dear canine, Sonny.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 1, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Stuart was instrumental in the first years of establishing Rush Homes, a non-profit providing housing for low-income people with disabilities. His business acumen provided key knowledge during the early years of the organization. He was a board member and a kind man with a steady hand and wit.

Stuart and I were on the Lynchburg Covenant Board where his many financial talents helped the housing programs for low income persons, seniors, and the disabled. It was always a pleasure to be in his company. Howard crossed paths with Stuart in banking in our community. We send our condolences to Stuart's family and are proud to have known him, a well lived life. Howard and Arelia Langhorne

I worked with Stuart at United Virginia Bank in the early 1970s. He and my best friend Leighton Dodd made UVB the go-to bank for commercial and real-estate loans in Lynchburg. He and Leighton were good friends, tennis buddies, and members of our bi-weekly lunch group at The Depot Grille. Stuart was, as his obituary says, "a good man"! He was generous with his time and contributed so much to the boards and charitable organizations he worked with! I am pleased to have known Stuart, and I send my condolences to his family. RIP good man! Bill Blackwell Midlothian, VA
