Susan Sockriter

October 31, 1954 - April 8, 2023

Susan J. Sockriter, 68, of Salem, Virginia, passed away peacefully April 8th, 2023, but her larger-than-life persona and trademark laughter will never be forgotten.

She was born in Lewes, Delaware to James (Jim) and Frances McIntyre on October 31st, 1954.

Affectionately known as “Mom”, “Mom Mom”, and “Grandma Squsan” by her family, Susan was loved deeply by her three children Charles (Chuck) Vickers and wife Jennifer of Delaware, Christina Pierce and husband Gary of Salem, and Thomas (Tommy) Vickers and wife Leah of Delaware.

Susan was further blessed with many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Kelci Horner, Kira Pierce, Tyler Pierce, Ellie Dobb, and Maverick Hardin of Salem. Alexis Vickers, Courtney Clagg, Zac Clagg, Brayden Clagg, and Summer Vickers of Delaware. Caleb Guy of Florida. Kailee Booth, Payton Vickers, Kayden Vickers, and Allyna Vickers of Delaware.

Susan’s enormous personality was shared with many in the community during her multiple years working at K&W on her weekends, treating everyone as a life-long-friend. In her free time, she also enjoyed crafting, reading, and cooking over the years as well as filling her home with an abundance of plants.

Famously opinionated, Susan was a connoisseur of seafood and a firm believer that all food should be served with hot sauce. She was a truthful woman, generous to a fault, and displayed an over-abundance of charisma and feistiness. Her personality will be missed and fondly remembered by all she touched.

Susan was preceded in death by her sister Sandra (Sam) Parks, father James (Jim) McIntyre, mother Frances McIntyre, and brother James (Jr.) McIntyre.

She is survived by her sisters Shirley Bennett of Virginia and Sharon McIntyre of Maryland, as well as her brother Jeffrey McIntyre of Ohio along with many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Emanuel Wesleyan Church in Roanoke, Va. on Saturday, April 22nd at 1 PM.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Roanoke, is assisting the family.  To send condolences, please visit tharpfuneralhome.com.

Celebrate Susan's life with a short message, photo or video!

Your mother was one-of-a-kind! Personality and smiles galore, regardless of how she felt! I never got to know her personally but felt in my heart that we were life-long friends! I knew her through my many visits to K&W with my mother. I ALWAYS looked forward to seeing her and joking with her. I was devastated to learn of her death as the world has certainly lost one bright shining light. I
