Thomas Truman Butterfield
Thomas Truman Butterfield, 72 of Lynchburg VA passed away on October 23, 2021.
Born March 4, 1949, in Middlebury, VT, Tom was the son of the late Lloyd G. Butterfield and Gloria (Mayette) Butterfield. As a son of a career Naval Officer, he lived in several parts of the US and in Japan. He settled in VA over 35 years ago. Tom graduated from Winchester High School in Massachusetts in 1967 and Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ in 1971 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked in the electronics field for many years. Tom was known for his generosity and willingness to lend a helping hand. He was known as someone who could fix just about anything and was indispensable for home and church projects. Tom’s many interests included horses, music, electronics, and his family’s genealogy which he traced throughout New England. Tom was deeply dedicated to his Christian faith.
He was recently predeceased by his wife Mary Judith (McNulty) in September 2021, and brother John L. Butterfield of Herndon, VA in 2018.
Tom is survived by his brother Stephen C. Butterfield of Middlebury, VT and sister Julia Butterfield (Jack) Cavacco of Deerfield, MA. He leaves his sister-in-law Nancy (Stewart) Butterfield and two uncles and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves his closest friend, Randy Byars. We’d like to acknowledge the late Marian Nowlin for her faithful friendship.
