Toby Blaine St. Clair
Toby Blaine St. Clair, 50, of Bedford, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born in Roanoke, VA on August 30, 1971. He was preceded in death by his dad, Norris Blaine St. Clair, sister, Tammy Lynn Chapman and stepdad, Ronnie Carter; paternal grandparents, Harry and Veatrice St. Clair and maternal grandparents, W.E. “Bill” Ferris and Betty S. Meador.
Toby served his country in the US Coast Guard after which he earned a degree from VCU. He then went on to become a fireman at Salem Fire and EMS. He was a faithful member of Glade Creek Baptist Church. Toby had a passion for history, reading, writing, and loved to act and write plays. He had accomplished so much in his lifetime.
He is survived by his mother, Rickie Lynn Ferris Carter; step-brothers, Shannon Carter and Jonathan Carter; brother-in-law, Robert Chapman, Sr.; grandmother, Ruth Ferris; step- grandfather, Maynard Meador; nephew, Robert Wayne (Robbie) Chapman, Jr, uncles, Alan Ferris (Shirl), Butch Ferris (Peggy), Jeffrey Ferris and aunt, Regina Agee (Greg) and numerous cousins and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Daniel Temeles, Bedford Centra Hospice and Rhonda Lavoie for their help and care through this difficult time.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Cancer Center or Glade Creek Baptist Church.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Tharp Funeral Chapel, Bedford with the Rev. Dr. Philip Ayers and Rev. Steve McChesney officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

I met Toby in High School. We instantly became friends and in many occasions hung out and had some funny moments. We followed similar paths and wished we would have stayed in contact. I always considered him like a brother. I thank god I was able to have known such a wonderful human being. Prayers for his family. R.I.P Toby.

Toby was a one of a kind. He was the type of friend you could count on and truly be there for you if you needed. I always considered him like a brother. We had some great times growing up. We met while attending Botetourt Intermediate School as it was called during our school years. He was one of the few guys that I can say didn’t tease me. He would joke a little bit but was a great guy. We went to separate high schools afterwards but if we saw each other it was always a kind exchange of words and asking how each other was doing. I’m saddened to see that he has passed on. My deepest sympathies to his family and dearest friends.

Me and my brother met Toby at a party when we were in high school. Toby made such an impression on us we became friends almost immediately. Toby will be very missed he was the type of person that other people wanted to be around. GOD bless you Toby sorry I didnt get to say goodbye . love you your brothers Jerry and Terry.
