Virginia Odessa Murphy Brown

Virginia Odessa Murphy Brown, 83, of Bedford, passed away on August 15, 2023 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born on June 10, 1940 to the late Wilbur L. Murphy and Alice Thomas Murphy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Wilbur Murphy and Mark Murphy; sisters, Maelynn Fleming and Rachel Minnis; son-in-law, Bobby.

Virginia was born the oldest of ten siblings. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Her hobbies consisted of gardening, especially flowers, traveling and spending time at the beach.

She is survived by her children, Troy Brown and wife, Kim, Karen “Lisa” Bonds, Vicki Brown, Kimberly Dudley and husband, Eddie and Sandra Dyke; grandchildren, Tonisha, Curtis, Donovohn, Troy, Robby, Bryan and Cody; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Elijah, Aaliviyah and Taleeb; brothers, Larry Murphy and wife, Peggy and Gerald Murphy; sisters, Glenda Davis and husband, Warren, Donna Johnson and Diane Jackson. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Tharp Funeral Chapel, Bedford. Burial will follow in the Murphy Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service starting at 11:00 am.
