Walter (Walt) Anthony Zmudzinski

Walter (Walt) Anthony Zmudzinski, 82, of Lynchburg, Virginia passed away peacefully at home after an extended illness surrounded by his family on June 30, 2023. He was the son of the late Walter J. Zmudzinski and Mary Clara Zmudzinski.06-05-1941

Walt was born on June 5, 1941, in Erie, PA. He graduated from East High School in Erie, PA. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Phyllis, for 60 years. After relocating home to Lynchburg. Walt established his career as a Quality Assurance Specialist (Nuclear) working for the U.S. Navy at B&W Mt. Athos.

Walt was an avid Civil War buff and enjoyed visiting the local Civil War battlefields. He played online Civil War trivia as “Colonel Mosby”. He enjoyed spending time with his family and fishing in Nags Head, NC. He regularly took his kids to the local lakes for fishing and picnics or could be seen in the backyard playing wiffleball with the kids. He loved watching the Dallas Cowboys and NASCAR racing.

Walt is survived by his wife, Phyllis Zmudzinski of Lynchburg, and his daughters, Lisa Aboud (Paul) and Kim Keesee (Rob), and son Jeffrey Zmudzinski. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Katherine Mills, Rachel Lambrecht, David Lambrecht, Tiffany Barringer (Jake), TJ Burns (Regan), and Jessie Shores (Daniel). Additionally, he is survived by his great grandchildren, Jack Mills, Gage Barringer, Huntley Barringer, Oakley Barringer, Raylan Burns, John Shores, and Jacob Shores, and niece Mary Linton (Bud). His beloved dog, Maggie May, will miss him greatly.

In addition to his parents, Walt is predeceased by his sisters, Lorraine Wood and Barbara Satkowski.

Per Walt’s wishes, there will be no service but a private mass will be attended by immediate family at a later date.

 

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
