William LeSure

April 3, 1965 - March 30, 2022

William LeSure departed this life on March 30, 2022, at Heartland Skilled Nursing Facility surrounded by a roomful of loving friends (several of whom were former coworkers).

William was born on April 3, 1965, to the late William Draper LeSure and Evelyn Byrd Draper LeSure.

Those who knew William, will remember his smiling blue eyes and his willingness to make his point known. He marched to the beat of his own drum. William loved the simple pleasures. William received his BA in English and Masters in Education from Lynchburg College. He maintained a lifelong interest in films and literature. He particularly relished arcane horror films. He hosted a local TV program for several years, interviewing friends and acquaintances. He was an original podcaster, before internet. There were days when he frequently visited Givens Books, Barnes and Noble, Cleary’s Video or Estates Revisited. He was a Man About Town. Even with his illness he continued to recommend books, films and local eateries to his visitors. The love of his life, bar none, was his lovely godchild, Rosemary Kristiana Lane. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

A graveside service will be conducted on April 7, 2022, at 1:00 pm at Fort Hill Memorial Park in Lynchburg.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.

I am so sorry that I lost touch with William. He was a good friend, fun to be around. I'll never forget meeting him at CVCC in the cafeteria. We had such an instant rapport that Denise and Robert (mutual acquaintances of ours) were smiling, and looking back and forth between us, in disbelief. It was so funny - and William and I just knew how to act it up! William and I met up again at LC and continued to share good times going out to eat, laughing, singing, and talking about our dreams. He always had so many ideas and such a fun energy. He is gone way too soon. I just can't believe it. I always expected to meet up with him again around town. I'm so incredibly sad that I won't.

William and I grew up together in Rustburg. We were close friends throughout high-school. His mom used to say she never worried about him when he was with me. I spent lots of time at his house and he at mine. We went on trips together and I knew him as well as anyone. Time and distance separated us,but those memories will never fade. Rest well my friend ❤

I had the pleasure of meeting William in college. We shared a love of movies and books. We drifted apart once I married but when I would see him in the city, it was like time had never passed. We would laugh and reminisce about the crazy times we had in college. He had a beautiful soul and a kind heart. Condolences go out to his loved ones. He is missed.

I first met William at Cleary Video. If you couldn't remember a movie title, no matter how obscure, he was the man to help you. Later I got to know him better at CVTC. He was always up beat, always encouraging and willing to answer questions. He also didn't hold back and would tell you the truth. If he thought improvement was needed, he said it, while never belittling or being unkind. He cared about the individuals and staff. He always entered with a smile and left with a Thank you. Whether it was discussing the individuals, movies, books, food or something in the news, he listened to others opinions and respected their thoughts, even if they didn't match his. I had not seen him in a long time, as life took us on separate roads, but was so saddened when finding out about his illness and passing. I know having the people he loved around him was a great comfort to him. William, you made a difference in people's lives and will be in our hearts. For those closest to him, healing thoughts for your loss of this dear friend. You were not just his friend, but family. May your memories help with the sadness.

I was blessed to go with William every other week for lunch or breakfast. He loved to hear about my day and especially enjoyed when I brought my Maltese, Finn, out with us. He enjoyed teaching a young man how to drive a car and this I think meant a lot to him. He did ask that I pray with him last week and I did and I will never forget that special time we had then. Both he and I had such a peace after we prayed. I will miss you William but will see you someday when I also go to be with our Heavenly Father.
