Gale Hardy Mitchell, 69, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 31, 2017 after many complications following surgery in May.
Gale was born Wednesday, August 11, 1948 in Pittsylvania, County, Va., the daughter of the late VA State Trooper William David Hardy and Nancy Hall Hardy. Gale had many different job positions during her lifetime all relating to the public and healthcare including: Big Island Pharmacy, Piedmont Family Practice, owning Top Notch Medical Transport, Lamano Agency, and Tharp Funeral Home. Gale was a member of Leesville Baptist Church and Women of the Moose #715, (Lodge 1335).
She is survived by her daughters Leigh Ann Markham and husband, David, and Kelly Spence Goff and husband, T.R., all of Big Island; a sister JoAnn Cadiero and husband, Gregg; a brother William David Hardy, Jr.; a sister-in-law Helen Hardy; and grandchildren Jordan Elizabeth Markham, Chloe McNeely Goff, Jesse Woodrow Markham, and Ashley Scott Goff.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Paul Neil Hardy and a sister Janet Hardy.
Gale enjoyed gardening, trying new recipes, many crafts (crocheting, beading) and she was a wonderful artist whose paintings are proudly displayed in her family’s homes. She also had a great love for her dogs Mechach and Maggie May.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg. A celebration of Gale’s life will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home.
