Garland Henry Linberg Huffman

Garland Henry Linberg Huffman went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 12, 2012. He was the husband of Shirley Louise Loving Huffman for 59 years, where they resided in Madison Heights.

Born June 6, 1927 in Botetourt County, Garland was a son of the late Grover Marcus Huffman and the late Anna L. Greenway Huffman.

In addition to his wife, Garland is survived by a son Garland Marcus (Marc) Huffman and his wife, Kimberly Casey Huffman; three grandchildren: Tori Alexis Huffman, Jordan Best and Jesse Best; a sister: Captolia Guthrie; a brother: Rodney H. Huffman and his wife, Janice; a special friend and member of the family, Benjamin Tucker; also Tiger, his beloved cat., and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents Garland was preceded in death by two sisters: Pauline Ruble, and Gloria Anna Huffman; two brothers: Roy M. Huffman and Grover W. Huffman, who were both veterans of World War II.

Garland was a WWII veteran, serving in the Philippines with an Army combat engineering division. A very devoted and loving Christian man, he was a member of Elon Presbyterian Church having served as a Deacon. He was a graduate of Lynchburg College and retired as a Manager of the Lynchburg Foundry Credit Union. After his retirement he was instrumental in helping found additional credit unions in the area. He was also a member of the Elon American Legion 100 and the Elon Ruritan Club. He will be remembered as a kind and loving man with a wonderful disposition. He loved his family dearly. He never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone who was privileged to know him. He was always willing to help those in need and spent much time in service to his community.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. today, Friday December 14, 2012 at Elon Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mr. Barry Tucker officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family requests that memorial contributions be mailed to Elon Presbyterian Church, 250 Camden Drive, Madison Heights, VA. 24572.
