Garland P. Taylor, born September 2, 1915, passed away on July 4, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fleming Taylor and Lillian Watts Taylor, brothers Willie, Roy and Clarence Taylor, sister Ruth Taylor Horsley and Thelma Taylor Smith, and niece Carolyn Horsley Branch.

He is survived by his nephew Thomas Abbitt Horsley, Jr. and wife, Carolyn, great nephews Matthew Horsley, Mark Horsley (Dana) and daughter Megan Taylor Horsley, and great niece Jennifer Horsley Filkoski (Paul) and sons Tommy, Stevie and Sonny Filkoski.

He is also survived by great nephew Garland Branch (Natalie) and sons Aaron and Neil Branch, great nieces Dianne, Elizabeth and Jeanette Branch and.   In addition, he is survived by his cousins Bessie Taylor Moss, Robert Moss (Brenda), Wade Moss (Joy), Elois Eubank and Edna Morcom (Bobby) and their families.   Garland is also survived by his cousin Marita Taylor and her children Rodney Taylor, Anita Taylor Moore and Faye Taylor Smith and their families.

Garland was a 20 year veteran of the U. S. Army and retired as a Master Sergeant.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday July 7, 2015 at Elon Baptist Church with Reverend Steve Tyree officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Anyone considering making a contribution in Garland’s memory may consider Elon Baptist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
