Garland William Crews, Sr., 82 of Altavista died Wednesday October 15, 2014. He was the devoted husband of Charlotte Martin Crews for 58 years.
Garland was born December 26, 1931 in Buckingham a son of the late Charlie Jones Crews and the late Lilly Pierce Crews. Garland honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He owned and operated C & B Trucking and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altavista. He was active with the Masonic Campbell Lodge #316 and served as Past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Rustburg Chapter #332.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a son Garland W. Crews, Jr. of Towanda, PA, two grandchildren: Courtney Lynn Crews and Garland W. Crews, III, a brother Clifton Coolidge Crews of Buckingham, a sister Ruby Crews Myers and her husband Horace of Victoria, three in-laws: Jane Wood and her husband Chip of Southport, NC, Wayne Martin and wife Marilyn of Blue Eye, MO, and Mary M. Dalton and husband Gary of Suffolk, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday October 18, 2014 at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg. A Memorial Service for Garland will follow at 4:00 p.m. Saturday October 18, 2014 in the chapel.
