Gary Duane Frye

Gary Duane Frye, 75, of Lynchburg, died at home Saturday, February 7, 2015, surrounded by his family. He was born January 25, 1940, in Martinsburg W.V.

Gary is preceded in death by his birth mother, Constance Phyllis Frye (Myers), his father, Durward Gold Frye, and his sister, Shirley Diane Jones (Frye).

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Gloria Frye; his daughter, Katherine Chavez Thomas (Frye) and her husband, Ed and their four children, all of Lynchburg; his son, Gregory Duane Frye and his wife, Theresa and their four children all of Seattle, WA; and his son Kenneth Hudson and his wife, Barbara Standing of Memphis, TN. Also surviving is Gary’s nurturing step-mother, Gertrude Frye of Lynchburg; his sister S. Elaine Powers and her husband, Bill of Orlando, FL; his brother J. Dennis Frye and his wife, Glenda of Lynchburg; his brother D. Leonard Frye and his wife, Valarie of Madison Heights; his sister C. Gayle Buchanan of Goode; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Gary graduated from Holy Cross Academy in 1957 and proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1957-1961. After completion of Electronic Tech. “A” school, he was stationed on two ships, the USS Cambria (APA-36) and USS Wasp (CV-18).

After the completion of his Naval Service, he was employed by General Electric Co., and its successor companies, Ericsson and Com-Net Ericsson from 1961-2001. He first worked for the Telecommunication Products Department in Quality Control, Product Service and Application Engineering. He then transferred to the GE Mobile Radio Products Department in 1975, and he held positions in Systems Sales, Domestic and International Sales, Marketing and Finance. He retired from Com-Net Ericsson as Manager, Contract Management.

Gary has been a member of Holy Cross Church since 1951. There, he was a member of the choir and served as a cantor for over 40 years. After retirement, he became an enthusiastic hiker and fisherman, hiking the many mountain trails and fishing in the streams in the area.

The family would like to thank the staff of Pearson Clinic, Dr. Headley, Shirley, and the nurses, especially Cynthia, Brenda, “T”, and Connie for their gentle and professional help during a difficult period, and Centra Hospice.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Cross Church Monday, February 23, 2015, at 1 p.m. with Msgr. J. Kenneth Rush officiating. A reception will follow at the church.
