Gary G. Peters, 69, of Rustburg, Va. gave up his fight and passed into his heavenly home on Saturday, January 15, 2022.  Born August 21, 1952, in Lynchburg, Va. He was the son of the late Naomi K. Peters and George C. Peters.  He is also preceded in death by his brother, Joseph C. Peters.

Gary attended Brookville High School and was a retired truck driver.  He was a member of Langhorne Chapel Community Church where he played his guitar for the Lord and the congregation every Sunday morning for many years.  He was also very active in the church always being there to help with fundraising stews, or breakfast, and he was the coordinator of the yearly yard sale.  He was also a member of the church gospel group (Saving Grace) who performed every Monday night at nursing homes all around the community.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sandra Peters and his 3 children: David Peters and wife, Mistie, Tonya Massie and husband, Gene, Michelle Suddith and husband William. Gary has 7 grandchildren, Dayna, Cody, and Savannah Peters, Nicholas Massie, and Kelci, Emily and Abigail Suddith; brother: Claude Nance and wife, Lavon; sisters, Wanda Garner and Yvonne Montgomery and many nieces and nephews.

Gary was a Lead Guitarist and performed locally with many bands over the years including Denim N’ Lace, Dixie Daze, EZ Street and the John Sines band. He loved music and continued to amaze everyone with his talent and ability even after a devasting accident where he lost two of his fingers on his left hand.

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and would do anything for his family.  He was a devoted son and helped take care of his sick mother for several years prior to her death.  He was also always there to offer support for friends when needed.  Gary was always willing to share his knowledge with anyone who wanted to learn, and helped several young people learn to play the guitar.

A special thanks to Tim and Christine Carter for the visits and calls during his seven month stay in the hospital.

The family will receive friends Sunday, January 23, 2022, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg.  The family request for the safety of all to please wear a mask while attending the service.
