Gary Lee gave 53 years of love, blessings, and joy not only to his family, but to every person who was blessed to have known him. He loved deeply and unconditionally, and his love knew no bounds. And in spite of his limitations due to Down’s syndrome, he lived a happy, full, and productive life. He worked for 20 years for the Stonehenge Country Club, and had a circle of friends and coworkers there that made him excited to go to work every day. And every day when he came home from work, he presented his “Mommy Lou” (as he named her,) with a drawing of him and her holding hands where he was handing her a flower. He was her “Charlie Brown.” He loved helping his mother with chores around the house and taking care of his cats who he dearly loved. And Gary Lee loved to “go”! He loved to go to church, go shopping, go to movies, go visit friends and family, go on trips, spend time on the lake with his sister and her family, and he loved to fish with his Uncle Rick on the York River where he was the self proclaimed “Fishing Champ.”The smallest act of kindness would give Gary Lee the greatest cause for joyous celebration.
Gary Lee had the purest of hearts and a love of the Lord that radiated from his soul, and he could pray and sing hymns like no other. His light and sweet spirit will live in the hearts of all of us who knew and loved him for the rest of our lives. He will be missed beyond measure, but has left memories in our hearts that will make us cry not only tears of sadness but glorious tears of joy and rejoicing for the gift of his precious life.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to be announced.
