Gary Robert Blomquist, Sr., 75, of Rustburg, VA, died Sunday, September 1, 2019. He was the husband of the late Brenda Phelps Blomquist for 20 years.
Born Thursday, August 17, 1944 in Brooklyn, NY, Gary was a son of the late Sven Blomquist and the late Ruth Edith Shook Blomquist.
In addition to his wife and parents, Gary was preceded in death by a brother, Gustav Blomquist; a sister, Annette Blomquist Peters; and his longtime companion, Phyllis Peters.
Gary is survived by his children, Gary R. Blomquist Jr., Shanon Dale Blomquist, Adam Scott Blomquist and his wife, Melissa, and Lori Megan White Sharp and her husband, Sam; twelve grandchildren; two brothers, Sven Blomquist and his wife, Meris, and Winslow Clark and his wife, Barbara; a sister, Martha Clark; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gary served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years based out of Norfolk, Va. He was a long-time employee at Babcock & Wilcox before receiving a medical retirement. Gary was a life-long collector of antiques & memorabilia and could often be found selling at flea markets and to other dealers.
A memorial service will be held on 6:00 pm Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Living Word Baptist Church located at 4130 Waterlick Rd, Forest, VA 24551. All are welcome to attend.
