Gayle A. Childress, 83, of Forest, Virginia, a loving mother and grandmother, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.

She was the born on June 20, 1941, to the late Luther Aultice and Barbara Powers Aultice in Lynchburg, VA, and was the loving wife of Carlton C. Childress for 64 years. Gayle attended school at E.C. Glass High School and later spent her life as a homemaker taking care of her family.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Daniel Childress (Fonda), Christopher Childress (Jean), and Todd Childress (Shelley); grandchildren, Danielle Childress, and her children, Remington and Dallas, Mekayla and Bryan Bratton, Stephen Harris, Carrie and Shawn Campbell, and their children, Lila and Kade, Jake Noel, Chloe Childress, Kyle Childress, and Allison Childress.

In addition to her parents, Gayle is preceded in death by her siblings, Trudy Staples and Russell Aultice.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. Interment will be held at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
