Geneva Sadie Newland

Geneva Sadie Gentry Newland, 86, of Forest, VA, died Wednesday, September 28, 2011. She was the wife of the late Joseph Lee Newland Jr., for 26 years.

Born Saturday, June 06, 1925 in Altavista, Geneva was a daughter of the late Charles L. Gentry and Mary W. Johnson Gentry.

In addition to her parents, and her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother; Charles L. Gentry, Jr., and his wife, Elizabeth, and two sisters; Arretta G. Ashwell, and her husband, Otis, and, Elizabeth G. Knight and her husband, Doc.

Geneva is survived by her brother, J. Douglas Gentry and his fiancée, Earnestine Lovelace, of Lynchburg, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Geneva loved her family. There wasn\"™t anything she wouldn\"™t do for them. All her nieces and nephews were treated as if they were her children. She also loved her church Boonsboro United Methodist Church, where she faithfully attended for over 35 years.

In her spare time Geneva loved working in her vegetable garden.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 1, 2011, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, and at other times at Doug\"™s home. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM, Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011 in the Chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ronald A. Litten officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Episcopal Church Cemetery.
