George Beverly Fuller

George Beverly Fuller, 91, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, January 9, 2014. Born January 16, 1922 in Bluefield, West Virginia; he was a son of the late Orby Lee Fuller and Alice Juanita Mahood Fuller.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Duncan and Evelyn Williams.

George is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Louise Childress Fuller, daughters; Diana Hart and husband, Phillip, Pamela Appel and husband, Joseph, Beverly Fuller, grandchildren; Stephanie Hart and husband, Paul Smith, Jennifer Hart and husband, Scott Graber, Michael Appel, Thomas Appel, Jayne Appel, Nathaniel Appel, Ashley Reed and husband, Morgan, Erin Hartman, Jonathan Hartman, great-grandchildren; Jordan Smith, Caroline Smith, Bella Graber, Zoe Graber, Liv Graber; sister-in-law; Patsy Atkins; and numerous nieces and nephews.

George grew up in Roanoke, VA and attended Jefferson High School where he played football. As a young man, he joined the Air Force and was a veteran of World War II. His love of aviation led him to a long career with United Airlines in Washington DC and San Francisco, California, where he resided for 20 years. He retired from United Airlines after 42 years of service and returned to Virginia with his wife, Louise, to enjoy his golden years.

George devoted his retirement to serving his community and enjoying his family. He was an avid fan of the Stanford University Women\"™s Basketball team of which his granddaughter was a member. He actively volunteered for the Greater Lynchburg Habitat for Humanity and helped establish ReStore. He faithfully served his church, First Christian, and participated in the Lynchburg Host Lions Club. He was Lion of the Year in 2005-2006. He loved to travel and remained active until his final days. He was a regular face at the Jamerson YMCA where he loved to exercise.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10 AM, Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at First Christian Church with Rev. Kim Steinhorst and Rev. Ken Burger officiating. Interment will follow at 1 PM in Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Salem. The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 14, 2014 from 6 to 8 PM at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg.
