George Thomas Dudley, Sr., 72, of Rustburg, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2024. He was the devoted husband of Peggy Lavonne Dudley.
George was born on August 28, 1951, in Lynchburg, a son of the late Melvin Dudley and Wanda Kesterson Dudley. George was a skilled machinist with Babcock & Wilcox until his retirement, although he found solace and fulfillment through many other passions, such as logging, farming, and the outdoors. Above all, he treasured time spent with family and held steadfast to his faith.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: George Dudley Jr. (Laurie) of Gladys, Sherry Dudley (Edward “Bubu”) of Evington, and Steven Dudley (Karena) of Palmyra; five grandchildren: Tyler, Katelynn, Haley, Joshua, and Lillie; seven great-grandchildren: Mason, Amora, Joshua, Lucas, Jonathan, Kamryn, and Salem; three brothers: Ronald, Frank, and Richard Dudley; and his beloved pet, Prissy. He is preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Dudley.
A Celebration of George’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2024, in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg with Pastor Sam Stump officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
