For His own purpose and His perfect plan, God came into our family and took our precious loved one.
George Kenneth Frey, Sr. 89, affectionately known as daddy, Grandpa George, uncle, cousin, deacon, and friend peacefully entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 9, 2024, at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital while surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on August 1, 1935, in Washington, DC. to the late George K. Frey and the late Peal Christian Frey. He was the widower of Ida Lee Eubanks Frey. Their union remained for 51 years.
George received his education in the Amherst County Public Schools. After graduation he joined the United States Army.
He was a devoted and faithful member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church for many years where he served on various boards, committees and auxiliaries. George had a kind heart, he loved the Lord and always assured his family, friends and even strangers, that he would remember them in prayer.
George was an "Honorary Greeter" at the Boonsboro Kroger where he shared words of wisdom and possessed a unique ability to form lasting friendships.
George would put a smile on each face and end every goodbye with "HAVE A BLESSED DAY". He will certainly be missed by his "Rivermont family "and all that passed through as he waved from the bench on the avenue.
Daddy will be fondly remembered by his children, Sandra Jones, Linda Hancock (Tony), George "Kenneth" Frey, Jr. and William Frey (Linda). Grandpa George was endearing and loving to his grandchildren Harry, Anthony, Kenneth (Twanna), Tiffany, TJ, Jermaiel, Sheora, and Dottie; 14 great-grands; and 3 great-great grands. George also leaves behind to cherish his memories his D.C cousins (The Christian Family) that so affectionally called him "Junior"; his longest remaining friend, Ralph Carter, Sr.; in-laws; nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Mount Carmel Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Christian Family Cemetery.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
