George Oscar Geissler, 75, of Lynchburg, died on Friday, January 9, 2015. He was the husband of the late Sally Andrews Geissler. He was born in New York, NY, on March 11, 1939, and was the son of the late Oscar Geissler and the late Marie Hummel Geissler. In addition to his wife and parents, George was predeceased by a son, Joseph M. Geissler.
George is survived by two daughters, Julie Greco and her husband, Michael, of Winston-Salem, NC, and Annemarie Hovis and her husband, Steve, of Lynchburg; one son, Timothy Geissler of Charlotte, NC; five grandsons, Jacob Hovis, Andrew and Aidan Geissler, and Allen and Aaron Gauldin; two granddaughters, Teresa Greco and Tara Elmore; one step-daughter, Karen Brown and her husband, Matthew, of Raleigh, NC; and four step-grandchildren, Matthew and his wife, Kate, Erin, Dominic and Chloe Brown.
George was a member of Grace Memorial Episcopal Church and was involved in many activities within the church such as ushering, the Men’s Group, and volunteering for Daily Bread. He was a retired Professional Mechanical Engineer with Babcock and Wilcox/Areva.
Throughout his life, George had a sense of humor, was an avid fisherman, enjoyed “playing” trains with his train club, frequently rode his bicycle on the trails throughout Lynchburg, and loved watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and most of all thoroughly enjoyed teaching his grandson, Jacob, about trains and playing with him.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1pm on Saturday, January 17, 2015, at Grace Memorial Episcopal Church with the Rev. Catharine Montgomery officiating.
