George Homer Anderson, Jr. died peacefully on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was born October 30, 1932, in Marian, Virginia. George was preceded in death by his parents George and Flossie Anderson, his twin sister Annie Gilliam and his brother, Homer. George is also survived by those in the Elliott home and his community who loved and cared for him.
At a young age George and his siblings were moved to Lynchburg Training School and Hospital. At the age of 18, George began working at Lakeview Farms and lived in the home of Carter and Etta Elliott (Boss and Mom) until he moved to the Johnson Senior Center in Amherst in his later years.
George will be remembered by those he knew as a man with simple pleasures. He loved his dog Whitey, enjoyed gardening and sharing his produce with friends, and building sheds to house his roto tiller and tools. George anticipated April Fool’s Day, Halloween and Christmas with great eagerness. He looked forward to the monthly Sunshine Club meetings and attending Whites United Methodist Church. George’s good nature and joy of life made others glad to know him.
His friends wish to thank the staff at Johnson Senior Center for the kindnesses shown to George while he resided there.
Memorial contributions may be made to Whites United Methodist Church, 513 English Tavern Road, Rustburg, Virginia 24588.
